David Meffe is a Canadian-Italian multimedia journalist and researcher based in Montreal, Canada. His work focuses on human rights, development, music, and international politics.

David studied Journalism and History at Carleton University in Ottawa, focusing on creative writing and international reporting. In 2013, he was selected by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada for a yearlong fellowship as a reporter with the Nation Media Group in Nairobi, Kenya. He later completed a joint master’s degree in Journalism, Media and Globalization at the Danish school of Media and Journalism, specialising in War and Conflict Studies at Swansea University.

From 2017-2020, he was lead field researcher with DefendDefenders, conducting human rights factfinding missions in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan, and advocacy at the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the United Nations Human Rights Council.

David’s work has been published in African Arguments, ONE, New African Magazine, VICE News, Vocativ, The East African, and others.
